Translation Team Leader (French)

Jagex Ltd, one of the world’s largest independent computer games studios, is looking for a translator with excellent project management experience and leadership skills, to be heavily involved in the creation of a French-language version of its flagship product, RuneScape.

Jagex develops and publishes PC browser-games internationally, with over six million active players. The company is built on its bespoke, industry-leading technology and the French Team Leader would work closely with the Localisation Manager to plan and manage the localisation of RuneScape into French. The project encompasses over 2 million words.

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Translation Team Leader. You will be responsible for managing major parts of the translation project, leading the French Translation Team, defining the overall creative direction of the translations and liaising with an external team of translators and testers.

Key duties include:

• Managing major parts of the translation project and its deliverables;
• Leading a team of four translators and one localisation tester;
• Define the overall creative direction of translations;
• Accurately report project progress and team performance to the Localisation Manager;
• Liaising with external translators and testers;
• Monitoring individual and team quality and productivity, identifying skills gaps and developing talent;
• Establishing a creative and productive environment through effective team coaching;
• Ongoing appraisal of team members’ individual performances, helping them to work towards their own continuous personal development;
• Leading by example through commitment, passion and professionalism towards Jagex, the RuneScape universe and the gaming industry as a whole.

Essential requirements:

• Strong leadership, with relevant experience leading translation teams;
• Excellent project management skills;
• Excellent translation background, translating from English into French;
• Great attention to detail allied to awareness of the bigger picture;
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to communicate enthusiastically, clearly and concisely to groups and individuals;
• Real interest in computer games/RPGs/MMOs and good understanding of the target market.

Qualifications:

• Translation degree or related subject.

Also useful:

• Game or fantasy translation experience;
• Scripting or programming experience;
• Experience with proprietary translation tools.
