Lead/Senior Software Developer Big Data Engineering

Jagex Ltd, one of the World’s largest and most successful independent online games studios, is looking for a highly driven, passionate and receptive Software Developer – Big Data Engineering to join our growing business intelligence team.

Reporting to the Head of Business Intelligence, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership in evolving applied Big Data capabilities, building advanced analytic tools, data pipelines and products. You will champion an agile approach to software development in a high performance team.

Key Duties Include: 

  • Apply latest Big Data technologies to process huge amounts of data
  • Extend our data & analytics platform to provide additional tools and capabilities
  • Work alongside Data Scientists to implement advanced analytics
  • Lead an Agile cross functional team in all aspects of software design, implementation and testing applying best practices from industry
  • Drive innovation & continuous improvement
  • Create and maintain an environment of high morale and creativity

Essential Requirements: 

  • Proven track record in a senior/lead role
  • Problem solver. Pragmatic, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Mature programming background in object oriented language(s)
  • Strong commercial awareness & understanding of business priorities
  • Able to lead with confidence and select/grow talent
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Excellent time management, accountability and organisational skills
  • Able to design/implement algorithms in a procedural or functional language
  • Committed to continuous learning to keep on top of quickly evolving technologies
  • Strong team player yet able to work independently, truly enthusiastic about Agile

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience running software development methodologies & agile teams
  • Experience with Hadoop Ecosystem (including Pig & Hive)
  • Experience with Java and/or Python
  • Interest/experience in Data Science
  • Practical experience with databases and SQL
  • Solid working knowledge of Unix and scripting language to tie software components into production pipelines
