Player vote launched to change the future of RuneScape forever
Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, Cambridge, UK. Jagex is inviting players to cast their vote on the future direction of RuneScape, with a major community vote launched today that will decide whether Treasure Hunter microtransactions are to be removed from the classic MMO.
RuneScape players are invited to cast their vote now on the RuneScape website. If the vote surpasses 100,000 votes, Jagex will remove Treasure Hunter — the major microtransaction layer for RuneScape — and over 220 associated gameplay-benefitting items from sale in RuneScape, including XP Lamps, Proteans, Portables, Dummies and more.
Today’s vote marks a milestone moment in Jagex’s pledge to make major, long-term changes that strengthen the integrity and value of the RuneScape experience. This is part of a wider shift across the business to focus on deeper, more meaningful gameplay and to build greater trust between Jagex, and the RuneScape community. Jagex encourages all RuneScape players to vote, as any votes in excess of 100,000 will underscore the importance of these changes to the community and signal the shared commitment to shaping a more transparent and player-driven future for RuneScape.”
“This vote is one of the most important moments in RuneScape’s history. Starting right now, players will cast the deciding vote on the future direction of the game,” said Jon Bellamy, CEO of Jagex. “Since Squeal of Fortune was introduced in 2012, and subsequently Treasure Hunter in 2014, our approach to monetisation has, over time, eroded some of the integrity at the heart of RuneScape.”
“The most concerning elements of our MTX systems have been those that allowed players to bypass core gameplay, skipping over the depth, challenge, and sense of discovery that make RuneScape truly special,” Bellamy continued. “While these systems have helped fund the game, they’ve done so at a cost to something far greater: the integrity of our worlds. This vote is about correcting that, and taking a step toward designing experiences that are fair, rewarding, and built to last.”
The community vote will remain live for 14 days. For more details and to cast your vote, head over to the RuneScape website.
RuneScape is available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android, complete with cross-platform progression and play on PC and mobile.
