Jagex pledges to a year-long Integrity Roadmap & announces major changes to the beloved MMO as the vote to remove Treasure Hunter MTX receives over 120,000 votes

Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Cambridge, UK. Jagex today announced major upcoming changes to the classic MMORPG RuneScape, confirming that Treasure Hunter microtransactions will be permanently removed from the game early next year, following a monumental community vote that saw over 120,000 votes calling for their disposal.

First introduced in 2014, Treasure Hunter is a daily activity which allows players to win prizes such as such as XP boosts, gameplay-skipping items and in-game gold. Although players receive a certain number of keys per day for free, they are able to purchase extra keys forming a major part of the current microtransaction layer for RuneScape

From January 19, 2026, Treasure Hunter will leave RuneScape for good, alongside 225 Direct XP and Skilling related items also being removed from sale. Items that disrupt core gameplay and the player economy, including purchasable sources of Direct XP, will be completely removed, as Jagex pledges to invest heavily in a year-long Integrity Roadmap.

Tackling areas of the game that matter the most to RuneScape players, the Integrity Roadmap will target the very heart of longstanding issues within the game, ranging from UI, combat, dailyscape, early and mid-game experiences, visual identity, and much more.

A New Era Begins on January 19

The changes on January 19 will fundamentally transform the future of RuneScape forever, welcoming in a new era that positions integrity at the heart of every design decision.

“January 19th is the start of a new era for RuneScape, powered by a shared desire to see this game grow for decades to come,” said Jon Bellamy, CEO of Jagex. “The removal of Treasure Hunter is just one part of a wider transformation across Jagex, which is seeing a renewed commitment to delivering deeper value, greater fairness and long-term improvements for players across all our games.

“We have all been delighted to see the passion and encouragement that the player vote represents for RuneScape, and over the next year, we will be delivering an Integrity Roadmap that tackles some of the game’s biggest friction points head-on, alongside one of our best content roadmaps in RuneScape history. I can’t wait for our talented team to give players a detailed look at our plans during an era-defining RuneScape Ahead on January 19th, and to celebrate the year ahead with the brand’s 25th anniversary.”
