RuneScape's Biggest Area Expansion In Its 25-Year History Begins Today

Today’s launch of the first part of Havenhythe brings a fresh quest series, Hunter expansion, two mid-level bosses, a new fish farming activity, and more…

Monday, 23rd March 2026, Cambridge, UK - Jagex: The RuneScape Company, today launches the first part of Havenhythe, a new region that marks the largest area expansion in the MMORPG’s 25-year history, one that leans into the classic RuneScape experience, away from the gods and world-ending threats.

Ahead of the release of a second part due later in 2026, today’s part one introduces ‘Scapers to the opening chapters of a new quest series, utilises Havenhythe’s wild surroundings to expand the Hunter skill, raising its level cap to 110, adds two new boss encounters for early-game players, and introduces fish farming as a new skilling activity.

Havenhythe’s Hunter update broadens Big Game Hunter gameplay by introducing new encounters in which players must avoid detection while tracking giant creatures across the region. These hunts provide additional Hunter XP and materials used to craft high-level ranger armour. A new clockwork trapping method also allows multiple creatures to be caught in a single trap.

The update also introduces two main story quests, Visions of Havenhythe and Hearts of Sanguine, which establish the region and the threat facing its inhabitants. Alongside them are two standalone quests: Wiz Kid, in which players help a child called Ben pursue wizardry against his parents’ wishes, and Hermit Permits, where they help the crabs of Wendlewick, Havenhythe’s largest settlement, solve a housing problem.

For players in the 40–50 combat level range, two new bosses in Silverquill, the Dreadhog and Ivar, King of Bones, which between them introduce combat mechanics including telegraphed attacks, weapon pairing, and protection prayers. Silver spikes dropped by the Dreadhog will also play a role in the wider conflict at the centre of Havenhythe.

The region also adds fish farming, a new skilling activity that offers an alternative to traditional fishing spots. Players stock between one and four pools using starters, including level 45 lobsters and level 55 swordfish. Once a pool reaches full population, it can be harvested. The activity requires active management, however, as pools can become dirty and algae can build up, threatening the fish stock.

Detailed information on the update can be found on the RuneScape website.

RuneScape is available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android, complete with cross-platform progression and play on PC and mobile.
